Preserve muscle memory

An editor switch already has a cognitive cost. Import the settings, themes, shortcuts, and extensions that matter so basic navigation remains familiar. You want the first week to test Cursor’s workflow, not your tolerance for a different keybinding.

Change one variable at a time

Begin with inline edits or chat over a small selection. Once that interaction is predictable, try repository-wide planning and agent runs. This sequencing makes it easier to tell whether friction comes from the editor, the prompt, or the project itself.

Keep an exit path

Do not delete the working setup on day one. Keep configuration versioned and make sure the repository still builds from the command line. A reversible migration encourages honest evaluation instead of forcing the team to defend a sunk cost.
